Overview

The OTHM Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Health and Social Care aims to provide students with the fundamental information, comprehension, and abilities needed for a job as a care assistant, support worker, or senior support worker in the health and social care sector. Through the program, students can achieve national occupational standards by demonstrating their skills through the production of proof from their work activities. The skills that learners acquire will enable them to pursue further education or a career in the health and social care industry.

Entry requirements

Students can begin pursuing the OTHM Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Health and Social Care as early as age 18. The admission requirements for these qualifications are not specified by OTHM. OTHM makes sure that students who are accepted into the program are capable of completing the required coursework and assessments at the appropriate level.

The OTHM Centre must make sure that students are hired ethically and with the right credentials to suit their needs, support and encourage learning, and allow for advancement. The degree is available in English.

Equivalences

OTHM qualifications at RQF Level 3 represent practical knowledge, skills, capabilities and competences that are assessed in academic terms as being equivalent to GCE AS/A Levels.

Qualification Structure

The OTHM Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Health and Social Care consists of 6 mandatory units for a combined total of 60 credits, 600 hours Total Qualification Time (TQT) and 120 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) for the completed qualification.

Duration and delivery

The qualification is designed to be delivered over 12 months for full-time study, but it is also flexible in its delivery in order to accommodate part-time and distance learning. The qualification is delivered face-to-face, through lectures, tutorials, seminars, distance, online by approved centres only.

Assessment and verification

All units within this qualification are internally assessed by the centre and externally verified by OTHM. The qualifications are criterion referenced, based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes.

To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, learners must provide evidence to demonstrate that they have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. Judgement that the learners have successfully fulfilled the assessment criteria is made by the Assessor.

The Assessor should provide an audit trail showing how the judgement of the learners’ overall achievement has been arrived at.
